Viaggio in Sicilia / 1: 14 giugno 2024 – venerdì

Partenza da Ischia, arrivo a Trapani

At 6:30am, sotto l’orologio, Peppino picks us up and whisks us off to the port.  Aliscafo, taxi, EasyJet, tutto easy e subito ci troviamo all’aeroporto di Palermo.  After resolving a snafu with the car reservation, we are off to Segesta!

The rhythms of the deeply moving tragic verses of old seem to echo tacitly in the stillness of a blazing morning sun and the deep blue sky.

Having filled our hearts and imagination with the evocative beauty of this site, we set off for Trapani, arriving and our Airbnb at around 5:30pm.  Our lodging was a 3rd floor walk-up on a narrow street on via Botteghelle in the old quarter, near the water.  Alessandro, our host, left a bottle of cold Grillo and a plate of prosciutto and Sicilian cheese for us to enjoy on the roof top.  A splendid welcome to a very charming, “work-a-day” (Rick Steves) Sicilian city.

Thanks to Alessandro we dined that night at a fish restaurant looking out at the water: La Tramontana.  Antipasti: caponata with tonno; sarde alinguate; main course: busiate, mine with burro di ricci and gamberi rossi from Mazara, Augusta’s with a grattugiata di pesce salato al modo antico and a Trapanese sauce.
