A literary and photographic pilgrimage through cultures, nature and time
Hi, I’m Bernardo Antonio…
Growing up in a working-class immigrant environment shaped my perception of the subtle thresholds that surround us—gateways opening onto other worlds, often sensed before they are envisioned or understood. My immersive experience as a high school exchange student in a Turkish village ignited a lifelong passion for exploring cultures and deepened my appreciation for languages, our bridges across those thresholds.
This formative experience set me on a path where I could weave together my work as a teacher and scholar of Spanish literature with a career in international education. After decades as a university professor—and as an aspiring photographer—I now use this space to explore ideas more freely, blending memory, travel, and reflection in ways that extend beyond the academic. This blog is an evolving archive of thoughts, experiences, images, and encounters that continue to shape my life and the world we inhabit.
Uplifted by process
While writing and photography show how we see the world, I view them as tools for proactively rescripting our role in it. The words we write and the photos we shoot train the mind to identify our potential for personal and collective fulfillment while seeking to effect positive change. My goal here is to help sharpen our focus on this potential and process. Above all, this site is about processes: our quest for transcending the boundaries of our being and making a positive impact on society and our environment.
